The Glasshouse
“Just 18 minutes from central London, The Grove – London’s Country Estate – is a magnificent 18th century house set in 300 acres of lush Hertfordshire parkland. Once one of the UK’s premier party houses, today it is renowned across the world for its striking contemporary bedrooms, world-class conference facilities, the multi-award winning Sequoia Spa and stunning 18-hole championship golf course, plus its 3 critically acclaimed restaurants – The Glasshouse, The Stables and Colette’s.
With privately commissioned works of art, extravagant suites and lavish drawing rooms, the heart of The Grove lies inside the magnificent Grade 11 listed Mansion building. Outside, the vast grounds provide guests with privacy, space and an array of activities. The River Gade and the Grand Union Canal run through the property and there is a choice of two large swimming pools: Sequoia’s mosaic-lined indoor pool or the outdoor heated pool in the 19th century Walled Garden, where there is also a kid’s club, tennis courts and croquet lawn.”
The Grove is a unique property combining old and new to form a perfect present.
On the food side The Grove has three amazing restaurants, each offering its own rewards. My dining partner and I dined at The Glasshouse.
“The Glasshouse is an international ‘Theatre of Cooking’ where chefs perform at lunch and dinner, preparing British, Asian and Mediterranean dishes. These are cooked on rotisseries, in woks and wood fired ovens then invitingly displayed buffet style for guests to enjoy.
Although not kosher the menu offers an adventurous array of dishes both hot and cold. Dishes range from roast salmon with beetroot and orange salad, orange and dill creme fraiche; extensive sushi collection; from the Mediterranean enjoy falafel/ houmus/ tabbouleh/ fattoush/ taramasalata/ flat bread or from the hot buffet try the fillet of sole duglere. To end off there is a selection of decadent desserts. The extensive buffet offers a selection guaranteed to keep even the most varied of choices satisfied.
The Glasshouse’s unique dining experience is enhanced by the exquisite decor which welcomes diners into a relaxed yet regal atmosphere. This restaurant promises a superb dining experience in one of Hertfordshires most beautiful and unique settings.
