The Romanian government has put a price tag of €1 billion on its 45.9% stake in the incumbent telco Romtelecom.
Several local reports quote the communication minister Valerian Vreme as providing the figure, adding that the stake will either be sold at a realistic price or listed on the stock exchange.
Greece’s OTE, which is backed by Deutsche Telekom, owns the remaining shares in Romtelecom and has been asked to submit an offer for the 45.9% stake.
Romtelcom is one of the leading players in Romania’s pay-TV industry, operating DTH and IPTV platforms, both under the Dolce brand name, and a cable TV company.
