The improvements have been a two-year project

A multi-million pound project to repair an historic Grade II listed bridge in Dorset has been completed.

The revamp of Canford Main Bridge and its flood arches cost £3.167m and included repairs to the stonework.

The bridge opened in 1813 and links Poole and Wimborne, taking the B3073 Oakley Hill Road over the River Stour.

Borough of Poole and Dorset County Council jointly funded the two-year project to restore the structure to its former glory.

The flood arches – built in the 17th Century – are owned by Borough of Poole.
