Assembly to discuss Games scams, Lalita Park not listed

Delhi Assembly is likely witness an uproar and disruptions on the first day of the winter session on Tuesday. According to Delhi assembly speaker Yoganand Shastri, the BJP is all set to discuss the preparations and organisation of the Commonwealth Games.
According to the schedule announced by

Shastri on Monday, the leader of opposition Vijay Kumar Malhotra and former minister Harshvardhan will begin the discussion on Commonwealth Games.

Interestingly, the house collapse in Lalita Park in east Delhi, which killed 72 people, may not crop up for discussion as neihter the BJP nor the Congress legislators have listed it for discussion.

“If any legislator brings up the issue, we may allow it to be discussed,” Shastri said. Apart from the Games, there will be discussions on traffic problem, development works in unauthorised colonies, allotment of MCD stalls and food adulteration.

Not only the first day, the eight-day long session is likely to witness heated arguments between the ruling Congress and opposition BJP. Sources said the BJP is likely to ask for a probe into the construction of several Games-related projects executed by Delhi government and organisation of the Games by a special team of legislators.

Senior BJP leaders said their MLAs would meet before the session starts to discuss how exactly to corner the government and demand the probe. “There was rampant corruption in preparations for the Games. We will ask the ruling Congress to set up a house committee to investigate,” he said.

The session will start on November 23 and continue up to December 1. It will have six sittings, with 120 starred and 365 unstarred questions.
