Henderson team hit Kempton trio

It was anything but a surprise to see the Nicky Henderson and Barry Geraghty partnership featuring prominently at Kempton and their treble included a deserved Listed victory for Carole’s Legacy.

The trainer and jockey both topped the standings of those in action on a grey but informative card at the Sunbury course, where the main draw was the Ladbrokes Mares’ Hurdle.

Carole’s Legacy (13-8) was entitled to go close over the three-mile trip as a prolific hurdler and chaser who was beaten only by the fine Irish mare Quevega in the David Nicholson at the last Cheltenham Festival.

Banjaxed Girl (6-4 favourite) and Santera were in command at the top of the straight but Carole’s Legacy picked the pair up on the run-in.

“It was very kind of (owner) Paul Murphy to keep her in training rather than whipping her off to stud and she will have another go at the David Nicholson, whatever happens,” said Henderson.

“She can go chasing in the meantime if we chose to and she will come on plenty for it, although we couldn’t get her any fitter at home.”

Geraghty and Henderson were even more closely intertwined in the career of Bobs Worth, who claimed the European Breeders’ Fund “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle.

The 4-9 favourite was second and first in a pair of bumpers at the course last term and accounted for Sire De Grugy without much difficulty.

The trainer revealed: “I actually bought him off Barry. He came from the sales and I didn’t know he was Barry’s at the time but I just liked him. He jumped well and he’s had a good blow, but you can get away with it on decent ground. I might give him another run over two miles, and maybe then two and a half.”

Lightly-raced Shakalakaboomboom (5-2 favourite) rounded things off nicely for the pair in the Pertemps Network Handicap Chase.
