Join Horry County Democrats for Myrtle Beach Happy Hour from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at Tavern in the Forest, 4999 Carolina Forest Blvd.

The Grand Strand Horry Democratic Club meets at 1 p.m. Dec. 3 at Friendly’s Restaurant, 4705 N. Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach.

The meeting is open to all. The group is conducting a food drive for area people in need. Bring donations of nonperishable food to the meeting.

The Myrtle Beach Republican Women’s Club is holding its Christmas celebration with guest Bill Connor, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, the commander of Joint Forces for Helmund Province, Southern Afghanistan, a graduate of The Citadel and University of South Carolina and a 2010 candidate for lieutenant governor.

Connor’s topic is the “Future of the National Guard – Friend or Foe of U.S. Citizens?”

The meeting and party takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 14 at the Dunes Golf Beach Club in Myrtle Beach. The luncheon buffet is $25 per person and there will be a gift exchange with a $10 limit.
