Apple iPad Next Gen Refresh Suppliers Listed; February Launch Likely

A new leak has brought out the possible launch date of Apple’s second generation iPad. The leak has revealed the list of initial PCB suppliers for the second-gen Apple tablet PC, which is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2011.

Apple iPad Next Gen Refresh Suppliers Listed; February Launch Likely

According to DigiTimes, who got information from industry sources, Ibiden, Tripod Technology and TTM Technologies are due to ship the first batch of components in December. The report also suggests that four more suppliers will be added to the list in February 2011, when sales start picking up.

The three circuit board producers have received certification from Apple, and will start shipping any-layer HDI boards for the iPad 2 in small quantities in the coming month.

Although Apple had unveiled the iPad in January 2010, the device was shipped only in April as tight supply of the 9.7-inch display prevented it from delivering on time. The new report suggests that the next-gen iPad will be launched earlier than its predecessor. We may be able to play with the device in February 2011 itself.

There hasn’t been any confirmation regarding the features of the new device, but supplier leaks and software have suggested some of its probable features. The company is likely to introduce both front and back cameras similar to those in the iPhone 4 and will probably jump to a faster, dual-core processor using ARM’s new Cortex-A9 architecture. The device is also expected to come with more RAM.
